Cancun, Mexico, is a popular beach resort, and together with Cozumel just to the south, has become one of the busiest cruise ship destinations in the world. During the prime late spring and summer months there can more than a half a dozen cruise ships coming, going, or docked at one of the busy cruise piers every day. The good news is that this many cruise ships heading to Cancun means that there are cheap cruise deals available, especially all-inclusive deals, and especially if you are willing to plan far in advance or make your travel plans at the last minute.
Western Caribbean Cruises
Many cruise ships that depart from the East Coast, Florida, or the Texas and Louisiana Coast list Cancun/Cozumel as one their major destinations. With this type of cruise Cancun might be a two- or three-day stop on a longer Mexico and the Western Caribbean cruise that includes several other destinations. Given the complex nature of the cruise booking business, using internet travel sites specializing in cruise travel is usually the best way to find a cheap cruise.
Cheap Cruises to Cancun/Cozumel
There are a number of websites that specialize in cruise travel and/or travel to Mexico or you can check out major online travel retailers like Expedia or Travelocity to look for the best deal. As of fall 2010, you could book a four-night all-inclusive Carnival Western Caribbean cruise leaving from Florida and including a stop in Cancun for as little as $179 a person, and a five-night Norwegian cruise starting at $229. Even better deals might be available if you book more than 90 days in advance or dig a little deeper for specials or last minute bookings on the internet.
Things to Do in Cancun and Cozumel
The beautiful white sand beaches of Isla Mujeres and Cozumel, and the great swimming, snorkeling and fishing, are of course the main attractions of the Cancun area, but nature and history also have their own stories to tell with the local ecological and archeological destinations. Visitors can take eco tours focusing on the local ocean and beach environments or opt for a bus ride and a day long jungle tour a few miles to the interior. There are several Mayan archeological sites within a couple of hundred kilometers including Tulum and Xcaret.
